This tender-hearted and inspiring story about a young boy and his Gullah-speaking grandmother, and the lesson he learns about what it means to be misunderstood even when he has done the right thing.
As my daughter began to gather her school books and work together for homework the other night, I opened the book and decided to read it to her knowing it wasn’t that long and not putting her work on hold for too long. Initially, she seemed rather uninterested in me reading her a book but as I read more & more pages, the more her face lit up and her mood changed from a tad bit annoyed to pure laughter & delight.
I recommend this book to anyone who has children or grandchildren! Congratulates Ms. Caldwell!!
This book was a great read for my 3rd grader. It highlighted the feeling of being misunderstood and how frustrating that can be. As we read the story together, my son was asking lots of questions, so appreciated that it kept him engaged. He also loved the illustration. Highly recommend this book!
